The Spirit of Studio Ghibli and Laputa: Castle in the Sky Inspired Engagement Ring

With the long-awaited recent release of The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s latest artistic collaboration, we are reminded of Jonathan’s jewelry journey with Takayas a couple of years ago. With his heart brimming with love and a vision as vibrant as the worlds crafted by Studio Ghibli, Jonathan asked Takayas to weave the magic of movies like Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away into an engagement for his beloved girlfriend. This week we look at how Jonathan’s passion and Takayas’ craftsmanship came together to create a bespoke testament of love. Inspired by the captivating narrative of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Takayas crafted Jonathan’s engagement ring as a tangible embodiment of the enchanting tale. Within the heart of the engagement ring, a dazzling diamond finds its home in a mini-setting reminiscent of the floating castle. As a certified gemologist, Takayas took meticulous care in selecting this precious stone for the ring. More than a dazzling centerpiece, the diamond represents the love and thoughtfulness that went into the ring as well as the extraordinary rarity of the couple’s special bond. The design takes inspiration from ethereal architecture, with delicate roots wrapping the band like tendrils grounding a magical kingdom in the sky. With the dichotomy of the sinuous roots and Laputa’s architectural landscape, Takayas’ artistry achieves a harmonious balance within the engagement ring, a delicate dance between the organic and mechanical. Sheeta’s iconic necklace gracefully adorns either side of the ring’s center diamond. As the necklace elements delicately frame the sparkling centerpiece, it represents its profound significance. As a symbol of the importance of family and protection, it’s an apropos motif that sits on the shoulders of the ring. We were delighted to hear the news of Jonathan’s engagement. It filled our hearts with joy to know that Takayas successfully translated the spirit of Studio Ghibli into this regalia of the couple’s love. At the beginning of the project, Jonathan asked Takayas to keep Sheeta’s wise words in mind: “No matter how many weapons you have, no matter how great your technology might be, the world cannot live without love.” -Sheeta It’s a lovely sentiment that truly resonates with the journey the couple will embark on together.

We’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Jonathan for his trust in Takayas’ artistic vision. May the couple’s journey ahead be as magical and enduring as the enchanting tales that inspired this unique and beautiful engagement ring!
